The 2025 City SC Coach Education Day took place on Saturday, May 3, at the San Diego FC Performance Center, with an engaging morning of classroom sessions led by Joe Smith, Technical Director – City SC Southwest, and Carsten Dohm, Head of Coaching – San Diego FC. Following the presentations, Carsten also conducted a field session on-site, providing valuable hands-on insight and practical application of the club’s methodology.
This year’s event saw the largest attendance to date, with almost 200 coaches from the various City SC clubs in Southern California. The annual coach education symposium plays a critical role in the City SC competitive program. It marks the official start of the yearly periodization plan and reinforces the age-specific coaching curriculum. Both classroom and field components are designed to align the coaching staff with City SC’s culture, methodology, and style of play.
“Saturday was a fantastic day of coaching development, and it was great to see the coaches from all the SoCal City SC clubs come together to collaborate and learn from one another,” said City SC Director, Steve Cowell.“The event affirmed just what a talented and enthusiastic group of coaches we have here at City SC, and I’m excited to see them carry that energy into the new season as we work to ignite a lifelong passion for soccer in every City SC player.”
To cap off the day, all attending coaches were invited to the San Diego FC MLS match, where the home team delivered a dominant 5-0 win over FC Dallas, providing a perfect end to a day dedicated to growth, learning, and inspiration.
Though designed for coaches, Coach Education Day ultimately benefits the most important people in the club: our players.
